The Uproar Festival of Public Art is a public art event sponsored by the Orange County Arts Commission in collaboration with the Town of Carrboro, Town of Chapel Hill, and Town of Hillsborough. The event began in 2023 and occurs every two years during the Summer and hosts a total of 60 works of art (20 in each town) outdoors. There is a juried competition and a public voting component.
Each participating town agreed to a purchase award, purchasing one of the pieces displayed in their jurisdiction.
Town staff identified Hamidou Sissoko’s “Venus Flytrap” as a sculpture that is of interest. The piece was created by a local Pittsboro-based African American artist and features a subject that is a plant native only to North Carolina. The sculpture will be displayed at one of the Town parks.
