Update

Town staff are developing a code enforcement policy to strengthen legal accountability and create a clearer, more accessible reporting process for residents.

  • In FY Q1-26, staff met to assess needs across the zoning and inspections divisions and drafted an outline of the potential policy.
  • In FY Q2-26, staff completed a Racial Equity Assessment Lens (REAL) to provide a framework for the code enforcement policy and consider the benefits, burden, and unintended consequences of current processes.

Next Steps

  • Winter 2026: Present REAL to CORE Team and REC, Document existing processes and identify gaps/opportunities
  • Spring 2026: Work with departmental staff to consider opportunities for leverage and coordination,
  • Summer 2026: Incorporate into policy document and conduct internal/external review
  • Fall 2026: Adopt policy and begin implementation
