Update

As of FY Q2-26, the Town has two bike-ped infrastructure projects under construction, including: 

  • Bike Loop Detection (U-4726-DF) at three intersections downtown and West Poplar/NC Hwy 54
  • NC 54 Pedestrian Improvements (BL-0044) NCDOT awarded the bid.

The Town completed the Roberson St. Resurfacing/Restriping project in FY Q1-26.

Next Steps

  • Ongoing: Continue pursuing state and federal funding to advance bike-ped projects
  • The bike loop detectors (U-4726DF) have been installed.  NCDOT inspection and project close-out.
  • Next for Construction: Phase 1 of the Morgan Creek Greenway (EL-4828A) was advertised for construction in November 2025 with the bid opening held on December 18, 2025. The Town is anticipated to award the bid and enter into a contract with a contractor to construct in January 2026 thus shifting the project to the construction phase.
  • Next for Construction: the NC 54 Pedestrian Improvements (BL-0044) are scheduled to get underway in February 2026.
