This Key Result is driven by a research phase and a policy development phase.

Phase one, strengthen the City’s community engagement practices by evaluating current practices and looking for opportunities to improve and offer accessible and inclusive engagement methods for persons with disabilities. An environmental scan will be undertaken to identify best practices and inform practical improvements to engagement processes with the overall goal to reduce barriers and enable more meaningful participation. The aim is to deliver standardized engagement tools, templates, participation supports, communication supports and guidance materials that will support inclusion and participation by persons with disabilities.

Phase two, deliver the Accessible Maple Ridge Policy. A draft document has been completed with feedback received from Planning Department and Engaged Healthy Community Advisory Committee. Legal, internal, and advisory committee consultation continues prior to a Council presentation in Q1 2027.
