Four initiatives have been launched to advance this key result:
(1) Create sponsorship package seeking community support for provision of sign language interpretation at City signature events.
This initiative is intended to improve accessibility and inclusion at local civic signature events by providing American Sign Language interpretation services (ASL Opening Remarks/ ASL Music interpretation), while also creating opportunities for partnership with local businesses, organizations, and community supporters. Staff will develop a standardized sponsorship package, establish eligibility and recognition criteria, and work to promote the opportunity in the hope to secure external funding for ASL interpretation services.

(2) Ensure participants have access to sensory spaces at City signature events.
The goal of this initiative is to provide sensory/calming spaces at civic signature community events to improve accessibility and inclusion for attendees who may benefit from a quiet, supportive environment. These spaces are intended to reduce participation barriers for children, youth, adults, seniors and caregivers who may experience sensory overload, anxiety, or related accessibility needs, helping more residents take part in City events comfortably and safely. 

(3) Ensure all accessible amenities and features are mapped and highlighted on public communication materials for City signature events.

This initiative will improve inclusive access to civic events by working toward ensuring all accessible amenities and features available at civic events are consistently identified, mapped, and clearly communicated in public-facing communication materials. This work will also create a clearer internal process for staff by establishing a consistent method to assess, verify, and communicate accessibility features for each event. 

(4) Ensure participants have access to cooling/warming spaces at City signature events.

The purpose of this objective is to advance public safety, accessibility, and inclusive participation at City signature events by ensuring cooling and warming spaces are planned, resourced, and delivered consistently. This work supports attendee health, comfort, and equitable participation, while establishing a clear staff process to confirm appropriate space, operational planning, and required resources are in place for successful event delivery.
