A number of action items in the Urban Forest Management Strategy (UFMS) are to review and update various bylaws, policies and documents as they relate to trees. The first phase of this work is to update the Tree Protection and Management Bylaw and the Official Community Plan with the recommendations contained in the UFMS. This is to ensure alignment between land use policies and urban forest goals, creating a resilient City by addressing climate change impacts like drought and intense storms, plan for long-term tree protection, and meet public demand for a healthy urban forest. These updates will ensure that the recommendations within the UFMS are reflected in the Tree Protection and Management Bylaw, and that there are no conflicts between the UFMS and the policies within the OCP.
