KR Public Update

The Community Safety and Wellbeing Action Plan is being advanced by the Social Wellbeing Action Team (SWAT). This OneCity team includes representatives from Community Safety & Wellbeing, Recreation, Community Planning, and Development Services.

If needed to advance larger objectives, this team assembles the larger Social Wellbeing Action Group (SWAG) that includes the Executive Sponsors, Police, Fire, Operations, Economic Development, and Communications.

Updates on Community Safety & Wellbeing Action Plan Items:

  • Be Downtown activation relaunched every second Wednesday from May 21 to September 10. Host locations: Brickwater, Tim Hortons at 22219 Lougheed Highway, Haney Place Mall, Memorial Peace Park, Food Truck Spot, Valley Fair Mall, Maple Ridge Shopping Square, corner of Plaza Street and Dewdney Trunk Road. Be Downtown | Maple Ridge, BC
  • In partnership with the DMRBIA, launched the updated and simplified Lock Out Crime Through Environment Design (LOCTED) program that can provide grants for member businesses for CPTED upgrades and emergency funding for victims of crime.
  • Mayor Ruimy and staff met with staff from the Youth Emergency Shelter to discuss data, programming, and advocacy needs.
  • Delivered Trauma-Informed Practice Training for Community Safety Officers. 
  • The Social Wellbeing Action team collaborated with Emergency Management to create a Social Sector Task Force distribution list that would be activated in an emergency event.
  • Completed expansion of Baby-Friendly feeding spaces in the ACT Theatre and Albion Community Centre.
  • The Social Wellbeing Action Team hosted productive meetings with Inner Visions Recovery Society and Hope for Freedom Society.  
    The meetings streamlined pathways into treatment and recovery programs and created opportunities for outreach team to spend time at the Community Resource HUB to build relationships and trust.
