An Indigenous Relations and Engagement Strategy is being implemented and is guiding the City's approach to working in partnership with Katzie First Nation and Kwantlen First Nation. This initiative supports the City's commitment to strengthening relationships with Indigenous communities and moving forward together toward a future built on respect and reconciliation.

Considerable work is ongoing to support the City's collaboration with local First Nations. In Q4 2025 the City signed Capacity and Guardian Agreements with Katzie First Nation as foundational agreements that will guide our engagement on projects of shared interest. A standardized process for making referrals to Katzie First Nation and Kwantlen First Nation has been introduced. Engagement on various projects and work with the Nations is ongoing.
