Description

The Rick Hansen Foundation works with organizations to assess their facilities and provide recommendations within established guidelines for accessibility. The City will conduct an audit of its facilities to improve accessibility for all residents.

The City works had to ensure that recreation facilities are accessible to all users. One way to do that is through audits.  The Rick Hansen Foundation has guidelines for public buildings to follow to ensure accessibility for those with both visible and invisible challenges. Facility audits have been completed on the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre and Planet Ice by the Rick Hansen Foundation in 2024. From this, grant funding is available for accessibility improvements, the front counter area at the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre will be prioritized.
