Description

McKenney Creek is a prominent natural feature that plays a significant role in the local ecology. The purpose of the project is to determine how McKenney Creek can be preserved or enhanced while enabling the development of the Lougheed Transit Corridor area as well as urban infill densification in other areas. The project also assesses requirements for ensuring the City’s drainage system continues to operate effectively while accommodating development.

The City received the consultants’ second draft of the McKenney Creek Restoration and Enhancement Plan, which outlines a phased, watershed-scale planning-level framework to restore ecological health, improve flood and climate resilience, strengthen water quality, and support long-term salmon habitat. The project management team held an open house (June 15, 2026), shared the draft with internal staff, met virtually with the Climate and Environment Advisory Committee and community interest holders, and circulated the draft community organizations and the advisory committee for feedback. The City provided project information to First Nations during the development of the plan and offered opportunities to review and comment on the draft report, subject to each Nation’s interest and capacity.
