Establish an inventory and baseline of bio-diversity health
City of Maple Ridge Corporate Plan

Description

By investigating and cataloguing the many natural species that call Maple Ridge “home” the City seeks to preserve a biological record, allowing for conservation funding where needed, informing future city planning endeavours to work with nature and its habits rather than against, as well as educate the public on the natural bio-diversity of our own backyards.

KR Public Update

Staff presented engagement findings from the Biodiversity Study to Council on September 22, 2026. Community and First Nations engagement identified strong support for source water protection, biodiversity conservation, and long-term ecosystem health, with participants emphasizing the importance of balancing future growth with protection of environmental and cultural values. Staff will return in 2027 with the final Biodiversity Study and implementation plan, including recommendations for integrating biodiversity objectives across City policies, programs, infrastructure and asset management, development processes, environmental protection initiatives, and long-term planning frameworks.
