| Healthy biodiversity supports life by sustaining ecosystems that people, animals, and food systems depend on, and this work brings together community values and place-based knowledge to build a clear picture of the health of local plants, wildlife, and ecosystems and to co-develop criteria for caring for places that matter to both the community and the environment. The analysis of biodiversity health data is underway with the consulting team. Community engagement is also underway, including an Open House that was completed in June. The Biodiversity Community Survey, which is open until, is available on the City's Engage Page: Biodiversity Framework | Engage Maple Ridge | |
| The City received the consultants’ second draft of the McKenney Creek Restoration and Enhancement Plan, which outlines a phased, watershed-scale planning-level framework to restore ecological health, improve flood and climate resilience, strengthen water quality, and support long-term salmon habitat. The project management team held an open house (June 15, 2026), shared the draft with internal staff, met virtually with the Climate and Environment Advisory Committee and community interest holders, and circulated the draft community organizations and the advisory committee for feedback. The City provided project information to First Nations during the development of the plan and offered opportunities to review and comment on the draft report, subject to each Nation’s interest and capacity.
Feedback received will be used to refine the plan. More information about the project can be found on the City's website: https://www.mapleridge.ca/your-government/city-projects/mckenney-creek-enhancement-and-restoration-plan .
Project display boards from the open house can be found here: https://www.mapleridge.ca/media/file/mckenney-creek-open-house-boards-june-15-2026
The project is expected to be at the Committee of the Whole on July 21, 2026. | |

| This is a new key result in Q1 2026 linked to implementation of the City's Resilient Future 2050 Climate Action Plan adopted by Council in July 2025. The City has been working to deliver emergency preparedness workshops and resources to residents for some time now, this key result brings together many pieces of this work to have a unified approach to deliver and track the awareness and impacts for residents from these efforts. Promotion and outreach will occur throughout 2026 as will tracking adoption of resources available to help residents manage a range of climate risks.
To date, the following progress has been made:
- We have seen an approximate increase of 15% of subscribers to Alertable (the City's new digital Alert System) since launching in early May. The number of subscribers is currently at 5,111, up from 4,441 in May (when the Alertable system launched) - nearing the 20% increase goal.
- Conducted 8 "Be Emergency Ready" (BER) Sessions so far this year. Feedback and validation have not been collected due to capacity constraints. However, results from last year would indicate a very high Net Promoter Score and most attendees recommending the course to a friend and changing their behaviors to improve personal preparedness. Stafff are actively working to address capacity constraints within the emergency preparedness team, and feedback collection from participants will restart once resource constraints are addressed.
- Early consideration of a Climate Ready Conference to be held in November, in collaboration with the climate and resiliency advisor
- A "Community Resilience Investment" (CRI) Grant has been approved for the City. A FireSmart Coordinator hiring process is underway, funded by the grant. Hoping to launch program in Sept 2026. This will generate new Key Results for 2027 once the program has fully launched.
- Flowworks monitoring system embedded in Flood Ready Guide and all Flood related emergency messaging sent via Alertable & Voyent.
