| Street Lights Policy and Expansion Plan: ImplementationCapital Improvements and Innovation |

G.O. Bond Team |
This initiative entails converting street lights in various City neighborhoods from sodium halide to LED-based technology. The GO Bond initiative known as Collier City received an initial allocation of $3 million. Subsequently, staff recognized that other areas in the City could benefit from the street lights conversion project, particularly areas that lacked sufficient coverage. Primary examples include Cresthaven, Liberty Park, Old Pompano, and The Highlands. Similar to conditions observed in Collier City, the aforementioned neighborhoods were built using old standards whereas light fixtures were placed at distances in excess of 300 feet. The prescribed separation between light poles is usually no more than 150 feet. As a result, the excessive separation creates "dark" pockets. These dark pockets are deemed inadequate and create unsafe conditions for pedestrians and vehicles alike. Staff recommended reallocating $2 million to address deficiencies across those neighborhoods and continue with the program City-wide.

Project Objectives |
Replace sodium halide light fixtures with new LED-based technology equipment. The City selected Holophane Memphis light fixtures manufactured for FPL, except where conditions do not allow the use of that product, in which case staff would select from other FPL products such as the ATB2.
