2.6.1: Share how UCPD Goes Above and Beyond POST Requirements.

UCPD does not only send our employees to POST mandated classes, they look for additional opportunities for training and experience. 
Completion Summary

  1. The UCPD SWAT team participated in the 2022 SWAT Fitness Challenge hosted by the Alameda County Sheriff's Office. The challenge was a two-day event designed to push the team's tactical skills and physical fitness to its limits while remaining mentally strong to perform specific tasks during scenarios.  Additionally, the event raised significant funds for the George Mark Children's House (pediatric palliative care center -- https://georgemark.org/ )  Training was posted on Social Media.
  2. In September 2022, several employees attended the Women Leaders in Law Enforcement Training Symposium. This year the conference is held in Anaheim, CA and brings together law enforcement professionals in a supportive and empowering environment. The symposium's goal is to continue to provide dynamic, contemporary training presented by subject matter experts in their fields and designed to help develop both professional and sworn members of the law enforcement community.
  3. In September 2022, Police Explorers from both the Union City and Newark Police Department, California conducted a joint meeting at James Logan High School. Both department’s explorers were able to study, train, and participate in team-building exercises as they begin their pursuit of careers in the field of law enforcement.  It was a great learning experience for everyone involved and helped further develop the strong relationship we share with neighboring agencies.
  4. In July 2022, UCPD Explorers attended the Alameda County Sheriff's Office 5th Explorer Academy.  The Explorer Academy is a great opportunity for Explorers to get a glimpse at the real police academy, and learn more about law enforcement.
    While in attendance, Explorers get to do things like fitness tests, building searches, and vehicle stops. They also get to watch presentations from special units like K-9s and Explosive Ordinance Detection.
  5. September 2022, the Hayward South office of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) hosted department wide training on Implicit Biased, titled Bridging the Divide.
