There were 328 motor vehicle thefts in Thornton in Q2-2022. This is about a 45% increase from the 4-year quarterly average (227) and continues the high trend that was observed in previous quarters.
Per the Police Department, a contributor to this rise in motor vehicle theft is that jails are increasingly not holding individuals for property crime violations.
In addition to increased patrolling, the Thornton Police Department is conducting a communications campaign to remind residents to not leave the keys in their vehicles, to keep their garages closed at night and to keep their vehicles locked.
