There were 288 motor vehicle thefts in Thornton in Q2-2021. This is about a 43% increase from the 3-year quarterly average (201) and continues the high trend that was observed in previous quarters.
Per the Police Department, a contributor to this rise in motor vehicle theft is that, in an effort to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus, jails are not holding individuals for property crime violations.
In addition to increased patrolling, the Thornton Police Department is conducting a communications campaign to remind residents to not leave the keys in their vehicles, to keep their garages closed at night and to keep their vehicles locked.
