About this measure

This measure the value of improvements to County programs, services, and processes as a result of continuous improvement efforts. Data reported is provided by the Cuyahoga County Office of Innovation and Performance (I&P).

Why is this important?

Cuyahoga County has a duty to continue to improve processes to ensure the maximum investment is made with public dollars received. I&P works with departments to identify process improvements. The value of improvements can be calculated in four different categories:

  • Cost savings: Funding previously spent that can be reallocated or reduced
  • Avoided costs: Potential costs that are not spent due to an improved process
  • Productivity gains: Increase productivity or decrease in staff time to complete work
  • Community benefits: Increase in benefits or decrease in cost to the community for services
How are we making an impact?

In 2016 through 2018, Cuyahoga County received grants from the State of Ohio to conduct Lean Six Sigma (process improvement) training through a contract partner. I&P oversaw the training and management of the grant. With the completion of the grant in 2018, I&P chose to move the training in-house to provide more regular training at a lower cost to the County.  This training is scheduled to restart in the summer of 2019.

In addition to the Lean Six Sigma training, I&P also conducts process improvement projects with department staff. In the first quarter of 2019, I&P submitted a report with recommended improvements on the procurement process.
