Sewer Maintenance Division staff impact Cuyahoga County communities through:

Maintaining the sewer systems for multiple communities on a regular scheduled basis:

• Assist communities in meeting Ohio EPA and NEORSD permit requirements;
• Proactively maintain and restore the capacity of the sewer system to reduce the frequency of basement back-ups and prevent discharges of wastewater to the environment;
• Regionalize the provision of staff and equipment to allow the allocation of sufficient resources to communities when localized major problem occur.

Leveraging the County's Geographical Information System (GIS) & Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) System:

• Provide maintenance crews with information as to the location of sewers and manholes in the field and information about house and building connections to the sewers to identify where work needs to be done.
• Track ongoing work orders and provides historical information on the work performed in a given location over a period of time.

Engineering, Construction and Permitting:

• Provide community wide standards for the design of new sewer systems and connection to the existing sewer system.
• Provide construction inspection of sewer projects for communities served by the Department regionalizing the provision of construction inspection personnel.

24/7 Service to Our Communities

• Sanitary Engineering monitors a 24 hour service line to receive calls regarding collection system problems.  Our Dispatch Group and on-call supervisors are able to have crews address problems often within 24 hours.

In 2020, the Sewer Maintenance Division served 38 communities in Cuyahoga County.  This includes services provided in response to over 10,000 house calls, approximately 3,000 construction site visits, and the maintenance of 65 pump stations.
