This measure tracks the number of inmates leaving the Cuyahoga County Corrections Center that are placed in career pathways through the Towards Employment program funded by the Cuyahoga County Office of Reentry. Additionally, the employment rate of that population is tracked six months after release.

Data are reported by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department on an annual basis.

Obtaining employment and having access to meaningful job skill training is a critical component of successful reentry from incarceration. Research indicates that cultivating genuine employment opportunities may be more effective in reducing crime than ongoing punishment. The issues encountered by reentering men and women include the stigma of possessing criminal records to an individual lack of employment history and useful skills.

Due to COVID-19, program providers have been unable to meet with clients and facilitate groups in the Cuyahoga County Corrections Center.  As a result 2020 program data is unavailable. 

This is an informational measure. It is included to provide additional details related to core County programs and services. Measure performance is impacted by a number of factors, including funding levels, strategic priorities, community need, and policy decisions made at the federal, state, and local level. Targets are not set for informational measures, but timely reporting of updates is important.
