About this measure |
This measure tracks the number of inmates leaving the Cuyahoga County Corrections Center that are placed in career pathways through the Towards Employment program funded by the Cuyahoga County Office of Reentry. Additionally, the employment rate of that population is tracked six months after release.
Why is this important? |
Obtaining employment and having access to meaningful job skill training is a critical component of successful reentry from incarceration. Research indicates that cultivating genuine employment opportunities may be more effective in reducing crime than ongoing punishment. The issues encountered by reentering men and women include the stigma of possessing criminal records to an individual lack of employment history and useful skills.
How are we making an impact? | |
The Towards Employment program, funded by the Cuyahoga County Office of Reentry, provides contracted employment and job readiness programming for sentenced males at the Euclid jail facility. Every program participant is offered post release job readiness services, credentialed training, assistance with job search, and case management. Towards Employment has established a network of employers that hire formerly incarcerated individuals and has been successful in mitigating a very significant reentry barrier.
