County Jail Population

- All people have equal access to justice
About this measure

This measure shows the average daily population of Cuyahoga County jail facilities, which include the Cuyahoga County Corrections Center, Euclid Jail, and Bedford Jail. Both the Euclid and Bedford facilities were added during the second quarter of 2018. Average daily populations are reported each quarter by Cuyahoga County Regional Corrections. Peer communities are reported by each respective county.

Why is this important?

Reducing unnecessary incarceration, while maintaining public safety, is a key priority for Cuyahoga County. The impacts of unnecessary incarceration can be devastating to defendants, their families, and the broader community. By monitoring the jail population, the County contributes to ongoing academic research that is assessing the effects of bail reform, diversion, and re-entry services on public safety.

How are we making an impact?

As the average daily population increased during the second quarter of 2019, the County ensured that 100% of all individuals booked into the Cuyahoga County Corrections Center received bio-social-psychological screening by MetroHealth System providers upon arrival.
