About this measure

This measure shows the crime rate per 100,000 in population. The data come from the Uniform Crime Report (UCR) statistics. This information is reported to the FBI by law enforcement agencies throughout the United States. The UCR collects statistics on violent crime (murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) and property crime (burglary, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft).

Data are reported by the Cuyahoga County Office of Innovation and Performance on an annual basis.
Why is this important?

The crime rate provides a measure of the safety of a community. The rate is also broken down between violent crime and property crime. The UCR data are not a complete picture of the safety of a community, but one indicator. Additionally, it reflects crime reports by police, not later adjudication.
