About this measure |
This measure shows the percent of child support payments due during a given reporting period that were made on time.
Monthly data are reported by the Cuyahoga County Office of Child Support Services on a quarterly basis. Annual performance is tracked by federal fiscal year, which begins October 1st and ends September 30th.
Why is this important? |
Presently, one in three children are involved in the Ohio Child Support Program. The Ohio Child Support Program impacts more children than any other public program with the exception of public education. It affects the quality of life of over one million of Ohio’s children. Children thrive when they receive the love and support of both parents. Child support can make a real difference in managing food, shelter, child care, transportation, clothing, medical, and dental expenses.
How are we making an impact? | |
Despite the pandemic, the Cuyahoga Office of Child Support Services (OCSS) found ways to remain available and serve clients in 2020. Recent data from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services shows Cuyahoga County among the top performers in the state in two categories. During the 2020 Federal Fiscal Year, the County had the highest percentage increase in the collection of past-due support among all 88 counties, increasing the percentage by more than 15%. For the 2021 Federal Fiscal Year, OCSS also leads Ohio metro counties in increased cumulative monthly child support funds disbursed to caregivers to support children in our community.
The Families Forward Demonstration project (FFD) continues to be implemented by the County and seeks to build on previous research on employment-focused programs to identify strategies for helping non-custodial parents qualify for higher-paying jobs in their local labor market. Ohio is one of six states testing occupational skills training, financial literacy and responsive child support enforcement to improve financial capabilities of non-custodial parents with child support obligations but are not able to fully meet their obligations due to low earnings. The FFD project is sponsored by MDRC, the Kellogg Foundation, and the Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE) of the Administration for Children and Families in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
