About this measure

This measure outlines the percentage of high school students that earn a diploma in four years. The data included in this measure are from public school districts within each county.
Why is this important?

Completing high school is an important first step toward long-term financial stability. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, workers without high school diplomas earned, on average, $24,000 annually; workers with high school diplomas earned $30,500; workers who completed some college earned $31,900; workers with a bachelor’s degree earned $49,900; and workers with a master’s degree or higher earned $59,200.

This is a community indicator measure. It is provided to show an understanding of overall community health. The County organization does not directly control the outcome of this measure; however, a number of programs and initiatives the County is undertaking can have an impact. Related government measures include:

The County also continues to look for ways to improve the graduation rate by engaging County employees in the True2U mentoring program, serving as a partner to bring Say Yes to Education to Cleveland, and supporting the well-being of children through the Cuyahoga County Family and Children First Council.
