About this measure

This measure provides project updates related to the Cuyahoga County Capital Improvement Plan. All reported information is provided by the Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works.

Why is this important?

The Capital Improvement Plan directs future capital spending for road, bridge, sanitary and facility design and construction projects for the County.  Projects are identified, funded and scheduled on the capital plan. Capital projects are major  investments using County, Federal, State, local and/or grant dollars to complete the work. Capital projects allow the County to improve the pavement of County Roads, rehabilitate and replace County bridges, rehab and install sewers and pump stations, and maintain and upgrade facilities such as buildings, parking lots and the airport, owned or leased by the County.

How are we making an impact?

The County continues to focus on roadway projects that make a regional impact and bridge projects that improve the safety of our bridge inventory. Sanitary projects are selected by working with communities and the Department of Health to identify their greatest needs. Facility projects are programmed in a manner to keep our facilities safe, secure and efficient.

Milestone Measure

During the first half of 2018, the Department of Public Works began construction on public roadway improvements surrounding the North Randall Amazon site and continued design of public roadway improvements surrounding the Euclid
Amazon site. These two projects are a partnership between the County, City of Euclid, Village of North Randall, State of Ohio, and the project’s developer.  Work on two sections of the Towpath Trail is also in progress as construction on Stage 1 and Stage 3 of the trail continues. These projects will bring the Towpath through Cleveland to the Innerbelt Bridge. In total there were 12 road projects, five bridge projects, and two trail projects under construction during the 2018 construction season. Eight new roadway operations projects, 14 new 50-50 roadway projects, and an emergency culvert project were also initiated and approved through County Council in the first half of 2018.
