About this measure |
This measure provides the total tax assessment for all properties subject to property tax in Cuyahoga County. Comparative analysis shows how the value of Cuyahoga County's tax assessment compares to other peer communities in Ohio and across the United States.
Data are reported by the Cuyahoga County Office of Innovation and Performance on an annual basis.
Why is this important? |
Property taxes represent a significant portion of the revenue stream that flows to local governments and school districts. The total tax assessment is based upon the total value of all property within each municipality. Stabilizing and growing that tax base allows for continued services that residents use and count on each day. Cuyahoga County was hit hard in the foreclosure crisis. The decline in jobs led to a loss of population and declining housing values because of the blight left from people abandoning their homes. While there are some signs of recovery, that recovery is uneven across Cuyahoga County.
