About this measure |
Measures included on this page show the total funding invested in homeowner assistance and affordable housing program projects in Cuyahoga County and the number of projects funded. Cuyahoga County has a longstanding tradition of investing in affordable housing and supporting homeowners.
Data are reported by the Cuyahoga County Department of Development on a quarterly basis.
Why is this important? |
The Department of Development's Homeowner Assistance programs aim to provide viable resources to effectively improve or maintain the homeowner's property, as well as affordable resources to support eligible first time homebuyers and low to moderate income residents to promote ownership and/or enhance their quality of life. The performance measures reported allow the County to identify and review areas that have the most need or have been most affected by Department of Development initiatives and create concentrated strategic efforts to continue assistance in conjunction with the County and a partnering municipality's or organization's Master Plan for housing and community development.
How are we making an impact? | |
The Department of Development's Homeowner and Housing efforts are focused on:
In Q3-21, Emergency Furnace Repair efforts increased (9 to 20) as residents began to prepare for the winter months by weatherizing their homes. Foreclosure prevention cases significantly decreased (67 to 7) as the initiative put in place by the Department of Development for Emergency Rental Assistance has aided in preventing foreclosures and evictions by providing funds to landlords/homeowners who participate in the program for current/arrears for tenant-based rents. Over the last two quarters, 2,800 payments were made in Cuyahoga County to help individuals maintain affordable housing. In Q3-21, the County has seen an increase with Fair Housing complaints (0 to 13), which may be due to some landlords not willing to participate in the Emergency Rental Assistance program and filing for eviction of their tenant(s).
The Department of Development, as the lead entity/PJ for the Cuyahoga County HOME Consortium along with Cleveland Heights, Euclid, Lakewood, and Parma, will be reviewing several applications in Q4-21 for Affordable Rental projects throughout the County.
