The Cuyahoga County Solar Co-op is focused on increasing the affordability and accessibility of rooftop solar for homeowners. During the five years that the co-op program has operated, the co-op program has helped over 150 homeowners purchase and install rooftop solar panels at reduced rates.

In addition to the existing 26% federal tax credit, co-op members generally save 15-20% off the cost of their system. Members are informed of all aspects of solar power and vendor-neutral support throughout the entire process. Through informational sessions, members learn about tax incentives, financing options, technical advances, costs, warranties, batteries and car charging ports. Each participating household is predicted to save an estimated $10,000 to $25,000 over 25 years. In addition, participants have significantly reduced the amount of carbon and other pollutants that they emit into the environment. 

In 2021, over 140 people joined the co-op and 23 households installed rooftop solar. In the fall of 2021, the Department of Sustainability selected Solar United Neighbors (through an RFP process) to organize and run the fifth round of the co-op, which launched in November. To date, over 120 households have joined.
