The focus of the Public Art Program in 2021 has been to increase community-based art initiatives.  This has been achieved primarily through our newly established Neighborhood Empowerment Grants.  Beautification grants were awarded to provide 2 new murals (one in the ACE District and one in West Baytown), and new traffic cabinet mini-murals in Central Heights and West Baytown. In addition, four cabinets along Baker and one cabinet in Pinehurst, have been identified for mini-murals that should be installed in Spring of 2021.

This quarter we also piloted a Storm Drain Art initiative.  3 Storm Drains around Bergeron Park were painted by local artist.  Submissions for art proposals were collected on Baytown Engage and voted on by the Public Art Visioning Committee.  We are also in the process of selecting sites and designs for a Hydrophobic Art initiative.

At the end of March, the control boxes at two of the Spray Pads were painted with colorful murals.  A call for artist was also opened for additional traffic cabinet mini-murals.
