City staff met with the TXDOT regional director to discuss an expanded effort in Baytown to clean bridges, overpasses, on ramps, etc. which resulted in a few exciting new possible initiatives. The Regional Director expressed a desire to pilot a new program in Baytown, whereby the City would assume primary responsibility for the remediation of highway debris/litter and TXDOT would pay for those services in much the same manner as they currently pay a third party contractor.
The City Manager is working with both Parks and Public Works to develop a methodology of sweeping SH 146, Spur 330, and I-10 at least once a week utilizing (at least on Public Work's side) primarily overtime to augment the Clean Team. This ambition has been modified to utilize contracted assistance to accomplish more frequent sweeps of 330 and 146. This should commence in 2019. Meanwhile, staff has been working with TXDOT to clean and repaint the overpass at I-10 and 330 entrance into the City.
