This is a component and strategy associated with the Market Street District Plan which, once complete, will make recommendations on specific property acquisitions in the area.
In the meantime, the City Manager has directed the Economic Development Foundation to begin probing the possibility of acquisitions on Market Street. Properties have been analyzed and determined to consist of approximately 5.5 acres with a value at a little more than $500,000. The Economic Development Foundation has been charged with approaching property owners to probe interest in selling these properties. The FY2020 budget will continue to support the City's ability to acquire these properties as willing sellers are identified.
Finally, the City has made a final offer for the old San Jacinto Hospital property on Decker along the waterfront from TD REO. The City is awaiting word as to whether that offer is acceptable to the company. It entails the acquisition of approximately 9 acres along Goose Lake. Payment would consist of both cash and the dismissal of some leans against the property.
The City's acquisition of the San Jacinto Hospital property is in the process of closing. This includes 9 acres along the waterfront and Decker, and is potentially the home of a future community center.
