| Continue to improve neighborhood lighting, specifically with LED lights.4. Neighborhood Quality |
Analysis | |
In December 2018, Centerpoint began the LED conversion project to retrofit existing poles with LED lights. They are rapidly moving from the west to the east in the residential areas. Once all of the residential areas are complete, they will address the commercial lights along the thoroughfares. This project is expected to be complete in late summer/early Fall of 2019.
The City has been divided into seven (7) different deployment phases and all but one of the phases have been completed. The attached map shows the areas completed by Centerpoint and the areas that have been verified and surveyed by staff.
Each phase has an approximate number of retrofits that are estimated as follows:
Phases | Total Number Lights | Number of Lights Retrofitted | Phase | Major Roads |
1 | 990 | 428 | Residential Completed | No |
2 | 125 | 413 | Residential Completed | No |
3&4 | 1740 | 1019 | Residential Completed | No |
5 | 1321 | 468 | Residential Completed | No |
6 | 1405 | 434 | In Progress | No |
7 | 518 | 684 | Residential Completed | No |
In addition, Public Works is actively addressing overgrown trees that are impeding the lights in neighborhoods. Finally, staff are surveying the completed areas to determine if additional lights are needed. The overspray of the LED lights is minimal and may cause some gaps in overall lighting. Those areas are being addressed under the regular annual residential allotment which will allow the City to install new lights with no upfront installation cost.
Residents can request additional street lighting by visiting the Permit Center on the City's website at www.baytown.org.
