The City participates in the federally funded Community Development Block Grant which provides several programs to assist low-to-moderate income homeowners with home maintenance assistance. City code enforcement officers regularly provide information about these CDBG-funded programs to local homeowners. In addition, CDBG staff also provides referrals to other resources that are available to assist homeowners. Two homes are being reconstructed with two home rehabilitation projects to follow within the next few weeks. Additionally, ten households have been identified as candidates for the Operation Paintbrush program and information has been sent to each encouraging them to apply. The City's CDBG-funded Sewer Line Program and Homebuyers Assistance programs also assist with improving building maintenance. Four sewer line projects with two more in progress will provide code-compliant repairs. Only one homebuyer has utilized the program to purchase a home recently, however, nine potential homebuyers have attended classes to learn about homeownership and home maintenance.
Staff has partnered with the Harris County Lead program to provide references, identify potential projects, and help our residents complete the program application. Over the last three years, approximately 88 homes have been repaired.
Assisting our residents and business owners to improve building maintenance is a continual effort throughout the city. See the attached photos showing examples of before and after impacts of exterior building maintenance.
