The State legislature has limited cities' ability to regulate the removal of trees, however, staff will continue to evaluate potential code changes to minimize the removal of trees in development projects. Currently, the staff encourages developers to retain as much vegetation as possible during the development review process. Staff has added additional landscaping requirements in the San Jacinto Overlay District to encourage the retention of mature vegetation. At this time, a stand-alone tree ordinance has not been drafted.
