The Parks and Recreation Department has completed a formal agreement with ExxonMobil to plant $1 Million dollars worth of trees over the next three years.  

The trees will be of the species approved by the Baytown Parks and Recreation Department and will be at least 2.5 caliper in size and 8 feet in height at the time of planting, unless a smaller size is approved by the City. The trees will be between 30 gallon and 100 gallon size.

The City will inspect the trees after planting and ExxonMobil will warrant the same for a two-year period. Generally, the trees will be planted in following nine primary areas around the City:

1. Along major thoroughfares lacking in tree cover, including Spur 330 & I-10, SH 146 to N. Main, SH 146 Business to South Alexander Drive, and along Spur 330 near Industrial District No. 1;
2. At various city parks, at entrances with little or no trees;
3. Within large city parks, along park roads which have little or no trees to create shaded corridors;
4. In and around park parking lots to reduce the heat island effect;
5. Along jogging and walking trails within city parks;
6. Along the Goose Creek Trail System where trees can be planted and are currently unavailable to provide shade;
7. At existing picnic areas where shade shelters do not provide adequate shade;
8. At key locations within parks which need screening or shade; and
9. Within parks where new projects are taking place which were unforeseen or unexpected at the time this Agreement.

Staff are also requesting funds from the Municipal Development District to assist with planting and irrigating the tree project over the next 3 years.
