Public notices must include specific language mandated by state law, which is not always easily understood. The mailed notices are being revised to use "plain language" for residents at the top of the letter before inserting the specific legal wording. This approach was used in the city-sponsored rezoning of the Cedar Bayou Lynchburg corridor along with door hangers advertising the public hearings. A few more edits will be done and then used for all of the zoning related correspondences. Additionally, staff created webpages to provide more public notice for upcoming zoning cases. The webpage includes a brief description and a map showing the subject property and surrounding area. Staff has also implemented changes to the zoning violation letters in order to have a better "plain speak" when it comes to what is in violation and what needs to be remedied.
Staff will also upgrade the signage used for zoning map amendment and variance projects. Most people are notified by the signage on a specific property so we want to ensure the sign is legible and sturdy.
