The City continues to invest significant resources into improving the flow of traffic in Baytown.  This includes major projects like the construction of San Jacinto Blvd. and connecting Hunt Rd. from John Martin to N. Main, along with more strategic projects like improvements to the synchronization systems on Garth, N. Main and SH146, adding right turn lanes at key intersections, and adding smart technology to intersections throughout the City.

The City continues to evaluate its pavement management techniques to ensure roadways last as long as possible.  In 2017, the City began utilizing a new technique called Micro Seal, which ensures that the City is maintaining asphalt streets between the time it's constructed and when it receives a mill and overlay treatment.

During the first quarter of 2019, major sidewalk construction projects were completed along Hunt Road (new), Santavy Road (new), and throughout the Oakwood subdivision area (replaced). In addition, the trail system in Baytown was expanded by 59,022 square feet of 10' sidewalk that was completed along the newly built San Jacinto Boulevard.

In the first quarter 2018-19, the Ward Road Loop trail was completed along with the final section of sidewalk on Santavy Road, connecting the San Jacinto Boulevard trail to Garth Road. In the third quarter, a trail was completed through Jenkins Park, with an additional connector trail currently under construction. Future plans are in place to continue adding trails and bike paths in Baytown over the next several years.
