| On August 23, 2018, City Council approved the LED Streetlight Replacement Agreement with CenterPoint Energy for the replacement and installation of light emitting diodes (LED) for all City of Baytown street lights. This project will replace all 5,213 streetlights and is scheduled to begin by December 2018. Over the years a myriad of different luminaire types have been installed throughout the City. This program would replace all Mercury vapor, metal halide, and high pressure sodium lights with LED's with the intent to save energy and cost per kilowatts used. This project does not have any upfront costs and would take approximately 2 years to complete. CenterPoint's current maintenance prices for the pole and light will not change. Currently, the list of other cities that have signed, been converted, or are in the process of conversion are: - Sugarland
- Manvel
- South Houston
- Galveston
- El Lago
- Beach City
- Pasadena
- Houston
With current rates and kilowatt usage, the City has the opportunity to save approximately $100,000 in energy savings the first year after installation. Additionally, the replacement project will generate energy savings of approximately 170,000 kilowatts per month, which is equivalent to the energy usage of approximately 190 homes for one month or over 2000 homes in one year. |
