This measure highlights the City's efforts to reduce euthanasia of animals brought into the Animal Shelter because they were either loose on the streets or were brought in as an unwanted animal. The target is to "live release" at least 90% of animals back to their owner, to a rescue group or to someone wanting to adopt the animal.
Three charts are shown with this measure. The 12-month rolling average of the animal live release rate highlights the percentage of animals live released over the past 12 months. The monthly animal live release rate highlights the rate for a given month and then the average for that same month over the previous two years. The monthly animal live release rate broken down by animal type highlights the varying percentage of live releases of dogs, cats and "other" animals.
