Progress Update

Nevada County Board of Supervisors adopted Climate Resilience as a Priority Objective on February 7th, 2023, to safeguard Nevada County’s economic durability, environmental integrity, and public health and safety by preparing for, adapting to, and mitigating changing climate conditions in a way that reflects our rural quality of life.

  • In partnership with the Town of Truckee, submitted a grant request totaling $1.2 million to the Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program to be used for creating a centralized, no-cost weatherization and home hardening and energy efficiency pilot program in Nevada County for residents making 80% AMI or below.
  • Interviewed and hired a Civic Spark fellow to provide staff support for climate objective. The fellow’s start date was October 16th.
  • Board of Supervisors approved a contract with Clean Tahoe to provide for litter abatement in portions of unincorporated East County.
  • Hosted 2nd Annual Sustainability Summit on September 27th: Inspire. Connect. Act. - Local Work, Regional Partnerships, and Creative Funding and Financing Mechanisms.
  • Pursuant to Board direction, staff continued its outreach, education and research efforts on California Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) programs. A formal presentation on CCA’s and Pioneer Community Energy was provided to the Board of Supervisors in early August.
  • Board of Supervisors approved Climate Resilience budget supporting climate resilience plan development, Civic Spark fellowship match, Education and Advocacy, Community Coordination and Capacity, Community Contracts to Implement Initiatives, and the Annual Sustainability Summit.

Next Steps

  • Identify Climate Action Plan framework.
  • Coordinate plan with existing County plans to realize efficiencies and leverage existing initiatives
  • Further all initiatives.
  • Identify and pursue additional funding and or financing opportunities.
  • Monitor and evaluate options for Community Choice Aggregation participation for Nevada County
