Promote economic development by emphasizing resiliency and entrepreneurship; retaining and attracting high quality jobs; investing in major infrastructure projects; and working with local, state and federal partners to support our small business, nonprofit, and tourism sectors.

 


Progress Update

Q1-23

Highlights from Q1 (January through March 2023) include:

  • Within the first six months, the economic development program manager focused on short-term planning and rolling out Nevada County's first economic development office.
  • The gonevadacounty.com website and social media promoted sustainable tourism and encouraged tourist visits to local destinations, retail, lodging, food and beverage, entertainment, and more.
  • The Board of Supervisors updated its initiative to read Support Potential High Growth Sectors to include cannabis, agriculture and be flexible to include other sector opportunities.
  • The Higgins Area Plan was approved by the Board of Supervisors in early 2023.
  • The economic development office engaged with over 125 businesses, agencies, nonprofits, etc. since the office was created helping to navigate them to county, local economic partners and other resources. 

Next Steps

Q1-23

Plans for Q2 (April through June 2023) include:

  • Develop a Nevada County economic development action plan including the county economic development office and local economic development partners.
  • Launch the economic development section of the mynevadacounty.com website.
  • Create fillable business readiness assessment tools geared to new or perspective small business owners.
  • Launch a monthly economic development e-newsletter that will include information on funding opportunities, business resources, workforce opportunities, etc.
  • Engage with large development projects on current status to suggest potential resources, funding opportunities, helping them work toward solutions to their most significant challenges.
  • Seek and initiate funding opportunities for county and community projects.
