Progress Update

Q1-23

Highlights from Q1 (January through March 2023) includes:

  • Direct assistance was provided by Sierra Business Council to 134 unique Nevada County businesses of which 52 were new businesses.
  • Staff coordinated with local economic partners to get resource information out to businesses, agencies, and nonprofits struggling after the storm.
  • Staff began discussions with educational partners (Sierra College, Nevada Joint Unified School District (NJUSD) and others) on workforce challenges and needs for youth and will soon begin actively participating on the NJUSD Continuing Technical Education committee.
  • Fifteen organizations have completed their funded work through the Community Resiliency grant program.
  • Nevada County Economic Resource Center continues its work to connect with fictious name registrants with 19 recent connections providing on average 20 hours of no cost technical assistance.

Next Steps

Q1-23

Plans for Q2 (April through June 2023) include:

  • Staff will re-activate the Nevada County Relief Fund committee to plan for fire season and finalize written guidelines.
  • Staff will launch phase one of the economic development website on the mynevadacounty.com site.
  • Staff will launch a monthly e-newsletter highlighting funding opportunities, vacancies, workforce needs, etc.
  • Through outreach and one-on-one meetings, staff will expand its efforts in connecting businesses to resources with the Small Business Development Center, Economic Resource Council and Sierra Commons Incubator program.
