Highlights from Q1 (January through March 2023) include:
- Promoted the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), a federal subsidy for eligible households seeking financial assistance for broadband service. Statistics indicate that enrollment in this program is fairly low compared to the number of households who are eligible, although the statistics do not take into account internet availability. The County reached out to all schools and Health and Human Services departments in East and West Nevada County to promote and support the Affordable Connectivity program. Updated ACP materials were distributed and continue to be distributed through Sierra Business Council. The County continues to partner with Sierra Business Council (SBC) in promoting outreach through partner channels.
- The County supported the California Department of Technology, the California Public Utility Commission (CPUC), and SBC in preparing and planning for two major events upcoming in Q2; (1) collecting public feedback and informing the State Digital Equity Plan (SDEP) the Broadband, Access, Equity, and deployment Plan (BEAD). These plans are critical to understanding how future funding will be disbursed from the state to sub-grantees, such as local government agencies.
