Description

Provide community leadership to prepare for and minimize the impacts of Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events on residents and local businesses by providing timely and accurate public information, prioritizing and advocating for the hardening of critical public safety and telecommunications infrastructure, and assisting people with disabilities and older adults.
Progress Update

Updates from July - September 2022:

  • Handled multiple public questions around PG&E’s local outages, fast trip sensors and hazardous vegetation abatement program. OES staff advocated to PG&E for more local messaging around these topics.
  • Staff met with Sierra Division Public Safety Specialists to discuss Nevada County specific concerns around local micro-outages, PG&E vegetation treatment programming, wildfire response and future collaboration opportunities.
  • This quarter the Sierra Division Government Affairs Liaison addressed the Nevada County Board of Supervisors around the fast trip system and the PG&E local vegetation treatment program. 
Next Steps

Plans for next quarter;

  • Meet bi-monthly with PG&E PSS and Government Liaison staff.
  • Continue to work with PG&E, TDPUD and Liberty utilities to plan for an mitigate the impacts of PSPS & PSOM in the fall of 2022.
  • Work with PG&E on increased messaging around their “Fast Trip” sensors being used in Nevada County.
