PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Information Technology Department (IT) is the digital foundation of Tamarac’s government services, partnering with all City departments to deploy and maintain resilient, scalable, and innovative technology solutions. IT manages a robust infrastructure that includes the City’s private fiber network, enterprise systems, cybersecurity frameworks, and cloud-first platforms. The department also leads initiatives in smart city infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and real-time constituent engagement tools. In addition, IT ensures business continuity through proactive disaster recovery planning, while supporting ongoing staff development with dedicated training opportunities to stay ahead of emerging technologies.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

The Information Technology Department’s goals and objectives are directly aligned with the City of Tamarac’s Strategic Plan, ensuring that every initiative supports the broader mission of delivering excellence in government services. IT is committed to providing secure, reliable, and innovative technology that enables staff to serve residents effectively. This includes maintaining resilient systems and networks, strengthening cybersecurity protections, supporting smart city innovation, and empowering staff with modern tools and ongoing training. The department also prioritizes digital equity by expanding access to broadband and mobile-first services, while continually updating the City’s living 10-Year IT Strategic Plan to adapt to emerging technologies and evolving community needs.
