Description
The Public Service Division updates its Street Pavement Management Program annually to priortize paving and maintenance needs, and to strategically implement effective repair methods to maximze the quality and lifespan of the City's roadway network. Priortization is derived through the performance of a street-by-street condition survey. Subsequently, streets are ranked based on a distress evaluation methodology known as a Street Condition Index (PCI), which assigns streets a value of 1-100.
The City of Charlottesville's roadway network consists of 682 streets, totaling 159 miles. It is the goal to maintain a network-wide average PCI target of 85.
Analysis
Currently, the City-wide roadway network average PCI score is 80.6, slightly below the desired goal of 85. Generally, speaking the City's roadway network is in good condition, with 60.5% of our streets falling in the "Very Good-Excellent" PCI scoring category of 80-100. Furthermore, 79% of City's streets have a PCI score of 60 or greater, placing the vast majority of roadways in "Fair to Excellent" condition.
