Description
This measure shows the total number of new trees planted each fiscal year on City owned land, which includes parks, schools, cemeteries, public buildings, and right of ways. Charlottesville Parks and Recreation plays an active role in not only maintaining the existing tree canopy within the City, but increasing the canopy for future generations.
Analysis
Based upon department resources for planting and watering, Charlottesville Parks and Recreation sets a goal to plant roughly 200 new trees per fiscal year. The target of 200 trees has actually been exceeded in several of the past fiscal years as a result of the planting requirements of several capital improvement projects.
