Description
A Crime Rate is a measure of a jurisdiction's reported annual P1 Crimes per 1,000 Residents. To arrive at this rate, a comparison of each year's reported P1 Crimes must be compared to that year's estimated population size, and then scaled to 1,000 residents. In this way, jurisdictions with vastly different population sizes can more easily compare how their respective populations are affected by crime. This can also be looked at as a measure of "crime density" in a jurisdiction.
Analysis
The percentage change in Crime Rate from 2015 to 2016 is the first positive (increase) in the Crime Rate that the city has experienced in five years.
From 2010 to present, the city has enjoyed a crime rate that has either been unchanging or gently moving downwards. 2016's increase is the smallest change - positive or negative - that we have seen in the crime rate over the past five years, and is not enough to substantiate a trend or cause for concern on its own.
