Description

The City of Charlottesville commissioned the Center for Survey Research to conduct an Employee Survey of all full and part-time employees. The purpose of the survey was to assess employees’ satisfaction with their work environment and give employees an opportunity to contribute their ideas and opinions to help make the City of Charlottesville a better place to work. This is the fourth year that CSR has conducted a similar survey for the City.



Of the 923 employees invited to do the survey in 2014, 356 completed the survey by web and 41 completed the survey on paper. A total of 397 employees participated overall, which is a 43% response rate. The survey was conducted from October 29, 2014 to January 9, 2015.
Analysis

Overall, employees are familiar with the City of Charlottesville’s organizational values. Nearly two-thirds (63.8%) of employees said they were “very” or “somewhat” familiar with the City’s organizational values and 25.8 percent said they were “slightly” familiar with them. Only one in ten (10.4%) of employees said they had never heard of the city’s organizational values.


Employees were asked to indicate if they agree or disagree with the statement, “The people I work with daily live out the City’s values of…creativity, leadership, trust, respect, and excellence.” The value showing the strongest agreement was “creativity” with nearly two-thirds of those who responded “strongly agreeing” or “agreeing” that the people they work with live out this value.

More than half of the respondents “strongly agreed” or “agreed” that employees live out each of the remaining four City’s organizational values.
