When applying for positions with the City, applicants are asked to self report gender, ethnicity, and veteran status information. Applicants have the option to not self report gender or ethnicity, which will show up as 'not disclosed'. This information is only collected for reporting reasons and is not used as a factor in employment decisions.
Data provided is for the last five calendar years, Jan. 1- Dec. 31 of each year, and does not include the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library, Board Members, or Elected Officials.

The total population reported in the City of Charlottesville for 2017-18 was 43,475 (according to suburbanstats.org) with 69% Caucasian, 19% African American, 6% Asian, 5% Hispanic and less than 1% Native American. Comparing this data to the demographics of CY2017 applicants, we see a higher proportion of African American applicants (29%), an equal proportion of Hispanic (4.9%) and Native American (.6%) applicants and a lower proportion of Caucasian (59.1%) and Asian (3.3%) applicants.
